Manage hedging as a program, not a trade log

Forecasts change, volumes shift and cover is built in layers. Vantry ATI measures hedges against the latest forecast, period by period, so the program moves with the business.

The challenge

Individual trades can look right while the program drifts

Exposure behaves as a portfolio, but it is usually managed one trade at a time. As forecasts move and maturities pile up, coverage falls out of line with policy and settlement dates stop matching the cash flows they were meant to protect.

  • Coverage that no longer fits

Hedges placed against last quarter's forecast stay on the books when the forecast changes.

  • Maturities out of step

Contracts settle when the bank's calendar says, not when suppliers are paid or customers pay.

  • No view of the whole

Nobody can say, period by period, how much is covered, how much is open and what the policy requires.

How Vantry approaches it

Exposure first, then layers of cover

In Vantry ATI the forecast is the anchor. Hedges are measured against it as it firms up, rolls forward or contracts.

  1. 1. Exposure is the anchor

Forecast exposure is recorded on hedge layers by period and currency, independently of trades, and updated as the forecast changes.

  2. 2. Layered and rolling cover

Each layer carries a target hedge for every period. In a continuous program the window rolls forward each day: the month that has passed is archived, a new month is added and targets reset by position. No trade is placed automatically.

  3. 3. Settlement in step with cash

Window and open forwards and drawdowns let contracts settle as invoices fall due, rather than on a single fixed date.

  4. 4. Gaps measured against target

Coverage is recalculated as hedges are added, and the gap to target is graded minor, moderate or major on every layer, for your team to act on.

What your team can do

A program that stays aligned

See, for every period, what is forecast, what is covered and what the target requires, then act on the gap with the analysis already in place.

  • Coverage by period against target
  • The gap to target, layer by layer
  • Fiscal year views and budget rates
  • Continuous programs that roll forward with time
  • Hedges with every provider in the same view
  • Firm and forecast exposure on separate layers

From gap to decision. A gap on any layer can be taken straight into HedgeCore, where the permitted structures are evaluated for that amount and period.
